Agrotech '98 Chandigarh, Punjab

general view with the cows on display

The visit of a CII Northern Region delegation to the Israeli Dairy Pavilion at Agritech '96 International Agricultural Exhibition in Tel Aviv, resulted in their initiative to establish a similar pavilion at the '98 Agrotech exhibition in Chandigarh Punjab.

The Pavilion was named the Punjabi Dairy Pavilion and showed local dairy farmers ALL aspects of modern dairy farming and the professional staff of the Punjab Department of Animal Husbandry were responsible for introducing these systems to the visitors.

There were 10 local cows living on site, being fed hand made TMR, machine milked at least three times a day, etc.. The milk was cooled and stored on-site and processed into a local white cheese, yogurt and chocolate milk. These products were handed out / sold to the public which highly spoke of the quality.

The Pavilion was a great success, and was awarded the first prize being the best pavilion at the exhibition. The equipment was then transferred to the PAU Agricultural University in Ludhiana, so local farmers could continue to observe these and implement similar ideas at their own dairy farms.
