water troughs - recycled tires / solar powered
The idea to recycle tires into water troughs is not completely new (seee above), however the configuration in the next picture is quite unique as it creates an individual trough which also becomes a kind of toy.
Observations have shown that cows prefer these rubber troughs over traditional steel troughs (perhaps the smell?) and also they like to play / scratch the edges.
On this farm in India we added simple small elements which enable the cow to drink only from the feeding alley and also prevent the cow from spilling water onto the resting area.

The solar powered small pump fills the trough which is more efficient in watering cows than going down to the water source and prevents also contamination of the source.
Another idea to reuse tires, we found near wells in Romania where animals flocked together to be watered by their herdsmen
